We are delighted to introduce Dr. Walsh as the new Clinical Director of CERTAIN. Dr Walsh has demonstrated a depth of academic leadership and clinical direction as he begins his ninth academic year as faculty here at BIDMC. After completing anesthesia residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, he came to BIDMC for his fellowship in Critical Care, where he has remained a central figure in both clinical care and education within the department. In 2024, he was appointed Assistant Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School, further cementing his role as an academic leader in the field. 

Dr. Walsh recently passed off the torch for his role as Medical Director of the ICU at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Plymouth. A role he began in January of 2020, mere months before the world was over taken by a once-in-acentury pandemic. 

He continues to serve as Associate Program Director of the Anesthesia Residency at BIDMC, which he began in 2019. Through this role he has become a driving force in educating the next generation of physicians towards best clinical practice. We are excited for the perspective Dr. Walsh brings as Director of CERTAIN- Center for Education Research, Technology, and Innovation (CERTAIN). His priorities for CERTAIN are to continue the support of education research within the department, work to create an internal certificate program in medical education, and support effective continuing education for the department through the Tuesday Scholarly Program and education division focused grand rounds sessions.
