Boston 3D Echocardiography Workshop 2026
Issue 3 | Volume 2 | August 2026

One of the highlights of 2026 was a landmark three-day course spearheaded by Dr. Feroze Mahmood on structural cardiac imaging. The Boston 3D Echocardiography Workshop drew more than 100 registrants from around the world to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from June 12 to June 14, 2026, for an interactive 3D echocardiography imaging “boot camp” delivered as a hybrid live and virtual event.
The workshop was led by Dr. Feroze Mahmood and Dr. Shweta Yemul Golhar. The scale of participation refleced both the department’s renowned cardiology expertise and its in-house production capabilities, including live video recording, live production, and live course webcasting. Every lecture was paired with a hands-on workshop and an interactive Q&A session with a 16-member faculty panel, giving participants direct access to the clinicians shaping the field.
Day One covered the foundations of 3D imaging, filmed live within BIDMC’s cardiac imaging suites. The afternoon workshop translated the morning’s principles, the underlying physics of 3D echo imaging and transducer design, into practice, covering image acquisition optimization, multiplanar reconstruction review, and automated valve analysis. Participants observed imaging techniques exactly as practiced at the bedside, with faculty-led panel discussion throughout the day. Day Two focused on advanced valve and chamber assessment, and Day Three addressed procedural and structural heart applications.
This year’s response to the Boston 3D Echocardiography Workshop demonstrated how the department’s cardiology expertise, paired with in-house production and live delivery from within the hospital itself, can elevate the quality of cardiology education. The next annual 3D Echocardiography Masterclass is set for summer 2027.
