Introducing Residency Program Director

Dr. Aidan Sharkey

Dr. Aidan Sharkey graduated from the School of Medicine at Trinity College Dublin and completed his anesthesiology residency through the College of Anaesthesiologists of Ireland. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Cardiac Anesthesia at Toronto General Hospital, Canada, before joining Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a staff anesthesiologist in 2018. His clinical practice focuses on adult cardiothoracic anesthesia, with particular interests in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and structural heart disease imaging. 

Previously, as Clinical Associate Director of the Center for Education, Research, Technology and Innovation (CERTAIN), Dr. Sharkey helped develop simulation-based and technology-enhanced educational initiatives while supporting curriculum development and faculty innovation in medical education. He also serves as Program Director of the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship and is actively involved in national education through the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists. 

Dr. Sharkey is now the Program Director of the Anesthesiology Residency Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he oversees the curriculum, education, and professional development of the department’s anesthesiology residents.
